The story of Tata Motors started with Jamshedpur Plant on June 1945. Jamshedpur plant the first Tata Motors manufacturing facility to be set up, has state-of-the-art manufacturing and assembly lines, which can roll out a medium or heavy truck every five minutes. The plant achieved World Class Quality Level III Certification in December 2017.
Innovation and global technology forms the backbone of Tata Motors' commercial vehicle production at Jamshedpur. It pioneered global trucking technology in India when the first commercial vehicle rolled out from the Jamshedpur plant through technological collaboration with Daimler-Benz of Germany. The plant has since provided India some of its most technologically rich and high-performing medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) catering to the civilian and defence sector. Over 200 models ranging from multi-axle trucks, tractor-trailers and tippers and special application vehicles are produced here for local and export markets.
The Prima World Truck produced here is a showcase to Jamshedpur’s technological capabilities - which was conceptualize with an Italian cab design, engine technology from the USA and Europe, gearbox expertise from Germany, chassis frame know-how from Mexico, sheet metal dies from Japan and Korea, combined with Swedish precision on a robotic weld line.
Jamshedpur is also home to a world-class engineering and research centre capable of carrying out complex vehicle designing through 3D visualisation and the integration of intelligent electronic vehicular control systems and hybrid technologies. The plant houses a world-class test track, the history of which dates back to 1955 as India's first test track.
