The Rosslyn plant is testimony to the rapidly growing global demand for Tata Motors vehicles. In keeping with the latest world-class manufacturing practices, the plant has the latest equipment and follows lean manufacturing principles. This gives it the flexibility to operate in mixed mode production and enhance output as the South African market demands. The plant can assemble semi-knocked down (SKD) kits of light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles (4-50 tonnes).
The Rosslyn facility started operations in July 2011 and is spread over about 34,500 square metres. It has the capacity to produce 2,000 vehicles a year and employs 65 people. Many of the staff have been trained at Tata Motors’ state-of-the-art technical training centre in Johannesburg, which has been operating since 2006.
